Water Controlled Gates

Presented to Ministry of Works and Transportation of Trinidad & Tobago

Felicity Cremation Site

Flooded drains at cremation site due to high tide. Sluice Gates need to be changed and larger capacity gates installed to prevent salt water intrusion.

Recommendations: Sliding Stem Fabricated Gate Valves as those manufactured by Fontaine with wall-mounted design that ensures full closure can eliminate salt water intrusion and can be automated for self opening on high water level (inland). Draining of inland water is essential to allow capacitance for heavy rainfall.

Trinidad Point, La Romaine

Fontaine Gates installed in 2003. Valves in perfect working condition but should be automated for better efficiency.

Recommendations: To automate all gates to open fully on increased inland water level providing that there is low tide.

Tulsa

Flap Check Valve not functioning and allows water to flow in both directions. This valve is too heavy for flood waters to open sufficiently to allow drainage.

Recommendations: A lighter more efficient valve is recommended. (Rodney Hunt Flexible Flap Valve)

Guayamere

This site shows clogged wooden type makeshift gates. It is totally unsafe for manual removal and insertion of boards.

The site contains non-functioning gate valves which prevent irrigation to farmers.

Recommendations: Installation of Sluice Gates complete with motor operated Floor Stand to eliminate flooding. The non-functioning gate valves can be corrected by installing new manually operated or automated Gate Valves.
